Jeff has played a lot of doctors. He’s the “go to” guy when a film needs both mad scientist or distinguished medical professional alike. Jeff was once quoted as saying, “If there was a Miskatonic, I’d be head of the medical unit by this point.” He’s definitely paid his dues.

Below is the first of four installments of “The Doctor Dossier,” a compendium outlining the various medical professionals Jeff has played over the years. This one starts with Jeff’s more known and recent doctors. Future installments will progress further back into his impressive catalogue.

NAME: Dr. Kevin Burkhoff (“The 4400”)
LAST KNOWN LOCATION: Seattle, WA (born Waltham, MA–March 11, 1961)
SPECIALTIES/FIELD OF STUDY: Neuroscience/Promicin research
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Quirky, disheveled. Fond of sunflower seeds. Anti-social, prone to fits of anxiety and paranoia.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Was a tenured professor of Neurochemistry at Stanford University. Considered the “Father of the 4400 Technology,” he specialized in dormant neural pathways that could “wake up” parts of the brain leading to special abilities – telekinesis, precognition, healing, etc. Recovered from Paranoid Personality Disorder after six years of being locked in a mental institution. Discovered how to neutralize Promicin Inhibitor, a drug given to the 4400 that blocked their special abilities. By taking trace amounts of Promicin (the neurotransmitter that gives The 4400 their abilities) from a “clean” 4400 (the baby Isabelle) and creating a serum to flush the inhibitor out of the bloodstream, Burkhoff gave The 4400 the ability to use their powers to their fullest again. Began experimenting on himself with a modified version of the Promicin serum. Changes began occurring – sores on chest, fingernails dissolving, pronounced cough, but it was worth the risk. Became the first non-returnee to develop a 4400 ability (self-healing).

Developed a test to discover who would survive the Promicin shot. Left-handers would more likely survive. With Burkhoff’s test, there would no longer be a 50/50 shot of life or death, but a much more clear determination of who would more likely survive the shot before it was taken.

Saved not just The 4400, but all of Seattle a second (if not third!) time in the finale of Season 4 when he discovered that a simple dietary supplement would counteract the effects of a virus-like ability to spread Promicin that was being carried by a new P-positive and killing those who could not survive its effects.

CURRENT STATUS: Was Neuroscientist at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA and a doctor/researcher at The 4400 Centre. Went on the run from the authorities with fellow Abenson Hospital patient Tess Doerner. Then hid out with self-proclaimed messiah Jordan Collier before becoming disenchanted and joining forces with Shawn Farrell and The 4400 Centre to make the aforementioned discoveries and save mankind a few times.

Got the girl in the end, too. :)
